EPPS Casino 2023 Fundraiser – Confirmed October 10 & 11
This update brought to you by the Elbow Park Parent Society (EPPS). Under the School Act, a parent society is a formal group of parents, incorporated under the Societies Act for the purpose of raising funds for the school. For more information about our Society and what our fundraising dollars have supported, please visit the Parent Society webpage.
- Our dates are October 10 & 11, 2021 for Elbow Park’s bi-annual casino fundraiser at Cowboy’s Casino
- Society is asking you to please volunteer for this valuable fundraiser – mark the date, signup sheet to come!
- This is a critical fundraising activity for the school, and accounts for a significant portion of our fundraising proceeds. In the past this event typically averages $60,000 every other year and is necessary to ensure that we are able to continue to deliver the level of support we are used to seeing to the school.
- Location: Cowboy’s Casino (421 12 Ave SE) – underground parking is available for free
- Food is provided
- Great way to meet fellow parents!

Playground Update
It has been exciting to watch the work progress on the addition to the school playground over the past weeks. The main work should be completed by the end of Monday. The fencing will remain up for a short while as we make sure the sod is able to take root and the surfacing is able to set. We look forward to opening the new equipment for play very soon!
You may notice that we have flagged one of the platforms on the existing park and placed a pylon on it. A temporary repair was completed today and a permanent replacement for this platform has been ordered.
Physical Education Update
This past week, our Physical Education classes focused on Indigenous games. Using resources shared by the Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council, teachers led students through games and activities such as Dog Sled Race, Toe Jump Relay, Line Tag, Tatanka Tatanka, and Frog Jump Race. Students got in some intensive physical activity, had a lot of fun, and learned how these games and activities helped children develop necessary skills and endurance while reinforcing traditional Indigenous values such as teamwork, cooperation, and collaboration.
Our next two weeks of Physical Education will focus on soccer, and will take place outdoors (pending weather and air quality). If possible, please ensure that your child's outdoor shoes are suitable for running and kicking.
