Elbow Park School has a rich learning tradition that dates to 1926. Our students are at the heart of our school; their learning is the purpose and function of our school community.
At our school we create quality learning environments in which learners experience successes and challenges. The environments nurture social, emotional, aesthetic, physical and intellectual development. Our beliefs and actions regarding teaching and learning are informed by the students with whom we work, current research, the Alberta Education Program of Studies, CBE directives, and the Elbow Park School Development Plan.
We recognize that learners function best in safe, caring environments which supports, empower and enable each individual to achieve their potential. Under these conditions, learners are more apt to make informed choices, take needed risks, and assume ownership for their learning. We believe that respect, acceptance of self and others, and assuming responsibility for learning, are essential elements of a successful learning community.
School Mission
Our school mission is to nurture a community of intellectuals to prepare young people to make a difference in their lives and in the world.
School Focus
Our school has a strong emphasis on individual student achievement. This includes competence in core subjects as well as in physical education and the fine arts. In addition, creativity, innovation, global citizenship and environmental stewardship provide the impetus for development of the whole child. Importance is placed on preparing students for their future in an increasingly digitally connected global environment. The School Development and Renewal Plan focuses on two student outcomes: personalization of learning and the development of positive virtues in all students, thereby contributing to responsible citizenship.

School Development Plan
Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

School Improvement Results Report
Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school. You can look on the CBE website for system-wide results.
