Visitors, Parents & Volunteers
For the safety and security of staff and students, visitors are required to check in at the main office. Visitors to the school are required to sign the visitor book and wear visitor identification while in the school.
Secure Door Policy
For student safety, all doors, including the front door, will be locked upon the commencement of classes. Please do not prop open secured doors or seek access through them. The office may be accessed by using the doorbell/speaker on the panel to the right of the door.
Playground Supervision
Supervision of students on the playground is provided at 8:05 AM and 12:40 PM. To ensure student safety, students are requested not to arrive at school prior to these times. Students using the playground after 3:08 PM are assumed to have parental permission and supervision thus parents are responsible for their safety. We encourage students to report home immediately after school.
Fire Drills
Fire drills are held on a regular basis. Staff and students discuss and practice these procedures before the actual drill. Drills are scheduled without warning. Students should always wear some type of indoor footwear, as some drills require the evacuation of the building. Students are expected to be quiet and orderly during drills so that directions can be given and attendance can be taken.
Please note: All individuals in the building are expected to exit during an evacuation drill and participate in lockdown procedures.
Lockdowns
All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.
Evacuation Procedures
In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
Video Surveillance Technology
The Calgary Board of Education may install and use video surveillance technology at select schools to support maintaining a safe and secure environment and to help control vandalism and criminal activity on school property.
Personal information gathered by video surveillance is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act section 4. The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.
This technology is considered a complement to, and not a replacement for, CBE's strategies in supporting a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment for students and staff.
Approval, installation and use of video surveillance technology will comply with Administrative Regulation 1066.
For questions or concerns, please contact the school principal.
