Principal’s Message
A big thank you to One World Drumming for our weeklong music residency. Students were very engaged and the instructors held our students’ attention and taught students about rhythm, timing and beat. This was a wonderful way to enrich our fine arts program and extend our curriculum. Thank you to EPPS for funding this event. This is also the one shared residency that we are offering to James Short Memorial School this year, allowing students between schools to have a common learning and cultural experience.
Next week, we are hosting the Calgary Flames Classroom Crew to work with our Physical Education (PE) team teaching flag football. Students will be outside for PE during this unit and so ensure that your children are dressed for the weather conditions, including appropriate footwear.
Our Centennial celebration was showcased on https://www.cbe.ab.ca/news/elbow-park-celebrates-100-years and includes a quick video of highlights from our day. Our time capsule contents are on display in our office if parents wish to see a bit of our school’s history. There is work still to do in preparing these artefacts along with our new time capsule for storage. We are hoping that some parents could volunteer to help prepare your children’s contributions for 50 years from now. Please reach out to Mr. Fech if you are able to assist.
School Council is also promoting an alumni fundraiser to build our Centennial Landmark brick bench. There is a PDF and QR code on our School Spirit – Centennial landing page. This bench has been designed by students and the contents of our current time capsule were also selected by students in each homeroom. This fundraiser promotes community connections and allows our students to reflect on their own values and experiences in our school. If you know of any alumni who would be willing to support our school, please share our School Spirit webpage to help spread the word about our cornerstone. There is a fundraiser flyer for download or share this link to our Alumni Centennial Fund to make a tax-deductible donation.
