Principal’s Message

Terry Fox DedicationOur Terry Fox Run has raised $1415 to date. Thank you to everyone who donated either online or with cash. If you are looking to still make a charitable donation, please visit our Elbow Park School Terry Fox donation page here.

flag raisingThis week we have had our Grade 6 students learn about Canadian flag protocol. They learned about etiquette including how to raise, lower and fold the flag. Grade 6 students will be taking turns each week raising and lowering our flag on a daily basis.

Our Lost & Found is already looking like Winners. We have two clothing racks in our school full of hoodies and sweaters with no names in them. Please come in and look and/or ask your students to claim their clothing. Of course we do encourage you to put names on the tags to help facilitate the return to their owner.

With September 30 being recognised as Truth & Reconciliation Day, our students will be learning about residential schools using age-appropriate resources. Our “Orange Shirt Day” will be on Wednesday next week and students will be participating in a school-wide acknowledgment of this day with a common activity. We will be tying orange flagging in the shape of a heart to a section of our chain link fence facing Sifton Boulevard.  Students are welcome to wear an orange shirt symbolizing, “every child matters”. Every June, we renew our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. This year, we will continue to utilize Indigenous knowledge, languages, and teaching methods in classrooms with a focus on applying learning that includes inviting Indigenous community members to share teachings with students. In making our commitment, Calls to Action #62.3 offered inspiration.

Save the Date: Casino Volunteers Needed 😊

We have confirmed dates for our Elbow Park Parent Society (EPPS) Casino: Nov 23 and 24, 2025 (Sunday and Monday).

Please sign up using this link

Every two years, we have the opportunity to run a casino with Elbow Park parent community volunteers, to raise funds for the EPPS.  The casino funds more than half of our overall Society budget, which allows us to offer unique programming to EPS students.

Please consider supporting this valuable fundraiser:

  • When: Sun 23 and Mon 24 November, 2025; daytime and evening shifts
  • Where: Cowboy's Casino (421 12 Ave SE)
  • What is needed: volunteers to support casino activities - training and support is provided for all volunteers on the day.

In a typical school year, EPPS pays for a variety of experiences and enhancements for your children:

  • Academic residencies including theatre, dance, in-line skating, skiing, lacrosse and Aussie rules football, totalling around $20,000.
  • Art supplies, PE equipment, math and science resources total around $10,000
  • Facility enhancements such as the outdoor boulder classroom, naturalization area tree planting, patio tables are budgeted to be around $10,000 per year
  • Other smaller items including classroom budgets for consumable learning materials, music equipment repair, iPad apps, concert lighting and leveled and/or decodable reading materials are budgeted at around $5000

Thank you for your consideration

Sincerely,

Jason Fech
Principal
