Sound Kreations Afrobeat Performance

We are so proud of how our students embraced this dance residency and performed for a parent audience today. The dance instructor repeatedly commented on how well behaved our students were throughout the week. He also shared how we have been only one of two schools where students were focussed enough to learn the complete choreography for all dances! This speaks to the wonderful learning culture that exists at Elbow Park School. We appreciate how these programs enrich our curricular programming and are only possible through parent fundraising efforts.

Martinis & Masterpieces Parent Fundraising Gala

Last night’s fundraising gala sounded like a success on many levels. We want to thank the many parents who volunteered countless hours to support this major fundraiser for our learning community. The generosity in our community is felt in many ways and makes this a special place.

EPPS Parent Society Bylaw Revision

The Elbow Park Parent Society (the “Society”) undertakes activities to raise funds to be distributed to the CBE and contributed to Elbow Park School (such as yesterday’s Martinis and Masterpieces event).  It is a registered Society under the Societies Act of Alberta.

The bylaws of the Society have not been fully updated since the inception of the Society in the 1990s.  Some parent volunteers have undertaken the task of revising the bylaws based on the recommended template prepared by the Alberta School Council Association.  The proposed bylaws are posted as “Elbow Park School Bylaws – May2-2025” on the Parent Society webpage

If you would like more information or have any questions or comments on the proposed bylaws please reach out to Christie Martin at cemmartin@icloud.com or Katie Clayton at kcleick@gmail.com by May 22nd.  You can also bring any questions or comments to the upcoming Society meeting this Thursday May 8th.

AHS – Community Education Sessions

The following are free online sessions offered by AHS:

-          May 5 (6:00-7:30 p.m.) How Does Puberty Affect the Brain? In this talk, we will learn about:
• Changes in thoughts and feelings that occur at puberty.
• How these changes are triggered in the brain.
• Implications of these changes on children's public and private behavior

-          May 6 (6:00-7:30 p.m.) Navigating Technology with our Youth. We will discuss the role of technology and today’s youth. The message of this presentation is not only based on technology, but also about a child’s healthy brain development and the necessary parenting/caregiver role in creating healthy, emotional, regulated, and integrated brains. This presentation will address the underpinning of a child’s emotional brain development and how to grow it, as well as how technology can dangerously hijack this.

-          May 22 (11:30 a.m - 1:00 p.m.) The Impact of Screens, Social Media, and Gaming on Youth. In today’s digital world, screens are everywhere—but what impact do they have on youth? This session will explore the effects of social media, video gaming, and screen time on key areas of life, including mental health, social connections, and overall well-being. We’ll discuss evidence-based insights on both the risks and benefits of digital engagement, as well as practical strategies for fostering a balanced approach. Join us for a meaningful conversation on how to support young people in developing healthy screen habits while strengthening real-world connections.
