School Council Principal’s Report is Posted

Thank you to everyone who attended our Council meeting yesterday. We were able to hear from Principal Riquelme from Rideau Park about their junior high programming. We also shared our amazing Provincial Achievement Test results from last June. All of our students who wrote the test achieved the grade-level “acceptable” standard for each test and we typically double the number of students who achieve “excellence” as compared to the provincial average. See the report on our School Council webpage.

Grade 7 Rideau Park Lottery Zone Clarified

All current Grade 6 students have been pre-registered at Rideau Park School for Grade 7 as your primary address on file with us places you in their designated catchment area. No action required by parents unless you know that you will not be attending that school due to private or charter school enrolment. Please contact Rideau Park School (403-777-7480) if you already know that you will not be attending there.

Please visit Rideau Park’s Registration Lottery page for information about the process. All Elbow Park students do reside in the “lottery zone” for their school and so we are considered Priority 2, unless there is an older student already attending there, then you are Priority 1.

To confirm your address within the “lottery zone” map for Rideau Park, consult this map.

Alberta Education Parent Survey – Due March 6

Every school year, Alberta Education and Childcare surveys students, parents, and teachers to gather feedback on school experiences. This input helps identify what is working well and highlights areas where improvement is needed.

As a small school, the Alberta Education and Childcare Assurance Survey (AECAS) invites students at Elbow Park in grades 4-6, along with their parents, to share their perspectives, experiences, and feelings about school.

This is an important opportunity to have your voice heard! Last year we only had 16 parents complete the survey.

Usually, Alberta Education uses Canada Post to send out random access codes to access the survey. We are excited to announce that this year, CBE School Improvement will email parents and guardians a unique, single-use access code to enter the survey.

  • Families with more than one eligible student will receive a separate single-use access code for each child
  • Paper copies and translated versions are available upon request through your child’s school principal
  • Participation is voluntary and questions may be skipped/survey can be exited at any time. As noted in the instructions for the survey, if a question is not applicable or if the respondent does not feel comfortable answering, they should leave the response blank, or answer “N/A”. A blank response does not count towards the total number of responses

Once you receive your access code, visit the AECAS webpage to complete the confidential online survey.

Students are surveyed during the same period as their parents or guardians, Jan. 26 – Mar. 6, however students typically complete the survey at school. Further details are available in the Parent Notification Letter.

If you have any questions or would like a paper copy of the survey, please contact the principal of your child’s school after Jan. 26.

By participating in the AECAS, you are helping to shape the future of education in Alberta

Lice Report

Today, the school was notified of one new case of head lice in our grade 2-3 classes today. Appropriate treatment was sought immediately. As per AHS documentation, once treated, a child may continue to attend school.

As with all matters related to health, we take our guidance from Alberta Health Services and other health authorities. Please encourage your children not to share personal items such as hats, hair accessories, or headphones. They should also avoid head-to-head contact during play or group activities.

It is important and necessary for you to be informed of this so you can check your child for any signs of lice. Please reference the following AHS documents for information about head lice and how to treat them:

If you have additional questions please contact Health Link Alberta at 8-1-1 or your health care provider

Kindergarten Registration & Open House

Kindergarten registration for the 2026 - 27 school year began on January 12, 2026. Please tell your neighbours and friends who have Kindergarten-aged children and live within our attendance area.

Kindergarten Parent/Guardian Open House for next-year Kindergarten parents (enrolling for September 2026): Thursday, February 5, 2026 (6:00-7:00 p.m.). We have an information flyer available for download here.

Calgary Opera Residency

We have begun our residency with Calgary Opera which will create our centennial themed performances on June 4 and 5.

Each homeroom worked with Dustin, our librettist, to come up with the content and lyrics for the play. Each grade level has a different time era of study.

We will require some parent volunteers to assist with elements of the production including set design and costuming. If you are interested, please contact Mr. Fech: jwfech@cbe.ab.ca
